Day 08a

Stayed here. It was old fashioned and nice!

What kind of fuel station is that?

Going up there...

Day 08 - Withypool to Lynmouth - 28 km

Finally a day with some better weather and what a difference it made. Everything lit up with colour and while my waterproofs were on at times and off at others, by and large it was lovely. It was a day mostly spent in the wilder parts of Exemoor too, so for a change, the terrain was more interesting to walk through. I detoured round a field full of bullocks having already had enough of that kind of thing. You can see the pictures of them here. And they were more than a bit interested in following along with me! I think they were just curious but was glad they were on the other side of the fence.
The final couple of miles into Lynmouth are extremely up and down but the views were lovely. And made more special by the anticipation of actually finishing once the sea had come into view from the top of the moor. So here's the final set of pictures to finish off this walk.

Plymouth to Lynmouth: Job done!

Day 07c

It was raining! Ok!

Various pictures of the Tar Steps. these apparently got washed away last year during a flood and the army had to replace them. Not sure why the army had to do that but they did. Now there is a 'tree catcher' upstream. There's some photos later. That should fix it. No more wash-away step thingys. Apparently they are all numbered now on the undersized so if they do get dislodged they can put them back together easier. Cheats!

And it was still raining! In an odd way it was nice. The little circles each raindrop made on the river were very pretty. And you tend to cocoon a bit inside the waterproof too which is cozy. But hell! It was still pissing down!

If the photos are a bit blurry, it's probably because they were taken through a plastic bag designed to keep my expensive phone dry. It worked too, but the phone was next to useless when it was inside it! Still we all live to fight a high-tech-nother day.

Day 07b

Oh I don't know. It was raining. What the hell!

Yeah, it was still raining! Is this the same Yeo thing where the yoghurt comes from?

But the flowers was pretty!

Wonder if I should have got some eggs!

Yes please. Some more mud!

Day 07a

Knowstone
Knowstone
Knowstone

Here's where the future lies...

So this is a public footpath. And not just any old unknown one. It's is the Two Moors Way, a motorway of a footpath. And they stick a bloody broken down piece of crap right in front of the style!  Some people care, some don't!

Day 07 - Knowstone to Withypool - 20km

Bloody rain all day. Not pissing down like crazy, just constant non stop rain. And the walk was quite arduous too. Some very steep climbs and then the last bit was seemingly forever along the river Barle into Withypool. Up and down and slithery and puddles and overgrown and endless. Would have been idyllic in the sunshine! Was a pest in the rain! And my left foot particularly really hurts. Tendons. The running for the half marathon has buggered it up. Was very glad to arrive at the pub/hotel.

Day 06d

Various photos of Witheridge.
